Looking for a piece of heaven just 2 hours from the hustle and bustle of Phoenix? Well you’re in luck! Look no further than Hacienda Del Sol, the most charming ranch style boutique hotel that we’ve ever been to.
This was my second visit to the resort that is tucked just off the main street (or what at least feels like a main street in Tucson!) far enough to have peace and quiet, yet close enough to run to AJ’s if you’re craving a green tea or pistachio muffin. The old world charm and modern luxuries are perfect for a romantic staycation or trip with girlfriends. A learned a few new facts upon this visit, most interestingly that Hacienda Del Sol originally served as a school for daughters of the extremely wealthy. We’re talking Vanderbilt status, where the daughters were boarded until the school closed in 1942 due to teacher shortages.
A few more fun facts include the casita that served as a secret hideaway for Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. Other notable guests include John Wayne, Clark Gable, and Howard Hughes.
What I love most about Hacienda Del Sol is the rooms, atmosphere, and the staff are so warm and inviting. Oh ya, there is the spectacular view of the Catalina mountains that doesn’t hurt either! The beautiful grounds include a spa, 2 pools, two delicious restaurants, and of course the old school house that has been converted into a gorgeous outdoor courtyard full of colorful flowers around every corner. Lets be clear, every corner of Hacienda is Instagram worthy.
Anytime of year is perfect for a visit, however if you go when the weather is a bit cooler, be sure to take a stroll around the property and watch for wildlife! There is even a sign at the entry that shows you all the wildlife that likes to call Hacienda Del Sol home.
