Ramen is in the name of the game at OBON but there is SO much more at this gem of a restaurant situated on the south side of Scottsdale Quarter directly across from Sephora (another win!) To start with, they’ve got buns, and who doesn’t like a perfectly soft bun filled with perfect flavors!? Obon doesn’t only offer one or two varieties, but FIVE! Here are my faves: Fried Chicken Sando (The Sandwich) with sriracha buttermilk, fried thigh, sando sauce & slaw AND the vegetarian option- bbq pulled jackfruit, hoison, peanut, pickle, cilantro & lime.
Besides buns, the crudo is a must try. Especially the Yuzu Yellowtail with orange peel, yuzu kosho, crispy ginger and dashi shoyu. If you’re looking to splurge, get the kimchi fries- to be honest, I can’t recall everything on them but they are glorious. The drinks are as tasty and beautiful as the food, just make sure you have a DD or Uber! Many of the cocktails border on sweet and savory and feature unique ice cubes which I always appreciate. As far as sushi goes, the rolls are unique but not too over the top. The Angry Tuna includes a spicy tuna mix topped with an albacore mix, ginger garlic dressing, jalapeño chili oil, rice pearls, and scallion. There are so many flavors going on, it’s truly a sushi party on your mouth in the best way possible.
So I think you get it, the food is fab. However- the vibe of the restaurant is great for a night out without being too pretentious. It can best be described as a mix of modern Asian vibes with hints of contemporary décor. The sophisticated cocktails and sake are complimented by the sleek wood-lined walls and velvet banquettes. The light features are funky and the bar and patio are both focal points of the restaurant and perfect options for dining alone or for date night.
