With elevated gastropub fare, numerous beers on tap, a culinary commitment to global cuisine (with an emphasis on Irish dishes this time of year!), local and seasonal ingredients, and from-scratch cooking, the food is both crave-able and delicious at The Thirsty Lion.
With 3 valley locations, one at Scottsdale Fashion Square, Santan Village, and Tempe Marketplace, you’re sure to find a dish and beer for ever palate and every plate. Cocktails are crafted with fresh fruit purées, juices, and premium liquors, while wines come in more than a dozen varieties. On my latest visit I enjoyed a moscow mule with an Irish twist and the hubby sipped his favorite local beer. If you’re a sports fan you don’t have to miss any plays because watching the game on one of the flat screens amidst an open kitchen, chandeliers, central bar and a patio that soaks up the AZ sun is what the Thirsty Lion is known for- well, that and the yummy food of course.
Speaking of food- the menu is a great mix of European and American pub offerings and as I mentioned they are gearing up for St. Pattys day with a special menu of Irish inspired dishes. I enjoyed traditional corned beef and cabbage served over cheddar mashed potatoes, a fried potato cake (hey, I love potatoes), and some of the BEST spicy but not too spicy culiflower I’ve ever had. Combine that with some beer cheese soup and a traditional burger for good measure and you have one really happy (and full) Irish red head. As stuffed as I was, you know your girl always has room for dessert so cherry bread pudding it was and it was worth every bit calorie.
The Thirsty Lion has created a place where friends and family can celebrate life and enjoy great food, beers, cocktails and the AZ weather this time of year- I highly suggest checking the spot out next time you’re in the mood for comfort food with a fun twist!
