GET CAMERA READY WITH SMILE BRILLIANT

September 11, 2018

I’m always up for a challenge so when Smile Brilliant, an at home teeth whitening company approached me about working together, I was all in. Did you know that red heads have a harder time whitening our teeth than blondes and brunettes?! It’s true! Along with being more resistant to pain medication, not turning grey, and a bunch of other crazy stuff- gingers are pretty much mystical unicorns and whitening our teeth is quite the difficult task. We’re bizarre, I know.

I’ve tried my fair share of whitening products including professional services from my dentist so I decided to do a little research on my own before agreeing to try this at-home  system because if you know anything about my blog, you know I’m super picky about the brands and products I feature on here. Luckily one of my blogger besties had used Smile Brilliant before so the product came with a sparkling recommendation- plus that same bestie has a freaking dazzling white smile so I was eager to do whatever she was doing. My first concern was finding out exactly what the actual whitening gel was composed of.  I was happy to learn that it is a 22% carbamide peroxide gel.

I was also concerned with how well the whitening trays would actually fit and what they would be made of.  The impression material used to make the mold for the tray is very similar to the type I had used in the dental office which yielded very accurate molds which made me feel good about the result.

Everything you need will arrive in your Smile Brilliant kit.  The kit includes the impression material and trays to make your molds, plenty of the whitening gel, desensitizing gel in case you need it, and in depth instructions on each step complete with pictures for people like me that prefer to follow visual instructions over words!

The first step to making the impressions is to mix the impression material and take both top and bottom impressions of your teeth, one at a time.  Mail the impressions back to Smile Brilliant in the envelope provided and they will make your trays and mail them back to you within a few days.
Once your custom trays arrive, you’re ready to get your whitening on!  Wear the trays with the whitening gel for anywhere between 45 minutes – 3 hours at a time. and follow each whitening application with desensitizing gel if you experience any tooth sensitivity (a common side effect that can last a day or two).  You may need to skip a day between whitening sessions if you experience sensitivity. ( I didn’t have any of this!) The amount of treatments you need to do will depend on how stained the teeth are to begin with- of if you’re a red head.  Don’t forget to take before and after photos!

My overall experience with Smile Brilliant has been easy breezy!  I was pretty impressed that I created perfectly molded trays at home  and there is plenty of gel to get great results plus a few touchups at later dates. Would I recommend Smile Brilliant?  The simple answer is yes.  The quality of the trays and whitening gel is similar to that you would find in a professional dental office! I found the hardest part was being home long enough to keep the trays in because if you know me, you know I’m rarely in the same place for more than 30 min, let alone a couple of hours!
