It’s hard to believe that we have a 4 year old but we do which means we celebrated is style with a Star Wars themed birthday bash at Dave and Busters complete with out of this world sweets and a visit from Darth Vader (per the birthday boy’s request!) To say it was memorable is an understatement because this party was a few weeks ago and JZ is still talking about it non stop. It might seem like a difficult task to wrangle 20 four year olds but at a place like Dave and Busters it wasn’t hard at all since they pretty much had the run of the place then we rounded them up in The Showroom for lunch, cake, and the very special visitor. Of course we had adult friendly food and special “mommy and daddy juice” for those in attendance that knew Darth Vader was really just a tall dude in a black spandex suit.
This is JZ’s cake. He didn’t have any specific requests when it came to the cake (which is super unusual given that our child likes to be in control of everything) so I went with it and let Jamie at Joyful Cakes and Sweet Treats have free reign and work her magic. Obviously it looked amazing but it tasted SO incredible too! I had SO many people come up and comment about how yummy it was! The top layer was vanilla on vanilla and the bottom layer was vanilla cake with chocolate mousse. OMG. It was heavenly and I’m so glad we had leftovers because I definitely ate it for breakfast for three days following the party. #dontjudge. Be sure to follow her on Instagram at @joyfulcakes.sweettreats to see all the magic she creates! P.S. she’s super reasonable too for all you mamas looking to stay on budget for your entertaining needs and she does way more than just fabulous cakes.
Cake is great, we all know that but why stop there? I mean, you only turn four once right? We ended up with the cutest cupcakes and cake-pops to compliment the themed dessert and gift table and to send the kids in to a sugar coma…sorry parent friends that came!
The cupcakes were from Simply Country Cakes (@simplycountrycakesllc on IG) and featured individual edible Star Wars characters on each mini cake. They were to die for! The amount of detail was insane. I’m telling you- the braids on Princess Leia’s buns and the texture of Chewbacca’s fur was perfection. JZ LOVED the Darth Vader and Yoda cakes the best and I almost felt guilty destroying them since they were basically each a perfect little sculpture. Don’t get me wrong, we devoured them because they were equally delicious. Check out all the cute things she makes on her social media especially if you have girls because her mermaid and unicorn themed goodies are adorable!
We didn’t just stop at cupcakes- we took it a step further with little character cakes on sticks- can you believe each one is an actual cake pop from Meg’s Poppin Pops?
Meg was able to make little vanilla cake pops in the shape of JZ’s favorite characters PLUS the glowing death star for each guest to snack on between light saber fights. I actually found out about her and her amazing pops from a friend that had them at her child’s birthday party where Meg had made them into sparkly unicorns complete with glittered horns. Of course she was up for the challenge of Darth Vader and C3PO no problem! You can see all her creations on Instagram at @megspoppinpops to peep at what I’m talking about when I say that she does not skimp on the details. She’s part artist, part baker, part animal lover, and all around amazing human!!
Since we’re dealing with four year olds here I didn’t go crazy with table decor because let’s face it. Four year olds don’t give a crap about what centerpiece I chose to invest my time and and money in looks like. They care about sweet treats and entertainment so that’s that and here’s a picture of the table that I spent about $10 and 3 minutes of time on. Amen, moving on.
Yes, I wore white jeans to a kid party. Clearly I lost my mind that day- I was slightly preoccupied!
Yup…our child likes the violent games that are probably meant for teenagers.
P.S. As I write this blog post, JZ and the hubby are currently at Dave and Busters probably playing an equally violent video game at this very moment.
Nothing says birthday parties like hugs and chicken nuggets!
I think a very special guest is arriving…
Darth Vader entered to his personalized version of Adele’s “Hello from the Dark Side”. You may wonder “Where does one find a 7 ft. tall Darth Vader?” Well, when you have a friend that handles the PR for Comicon, it’s easier than you think! Just visit my friends at SUPERHERO RENTAL OF ARIZONA
Yes, that’s a thing!
His life is complete!
What could go wrong with a bunch of four year olds with swords?
Shockingly, nobody lost an eye and there was only 1 child that cried. Not too shabby!
Poor Darth Vader, he got beat up by a bunch of kids and put up a tough fight but in the end JZ defeated him.
A very sweet ending to the perfect day celebrating 4 years with this little man that makes our lives better every single day!
JZ has already started planning for his 5th birthday party so stay tuned. In 11.5 months from now I’ll share all the details!
