In a town filled with restaurants, it’s always a pleasant surprise when something pops up that is unique, delicious, and has a fun fresh vibe. Enter: Starlite BBQ. On a recent visit, I set out to find out what all the hype was about on social media about Starlite. I kept seeing pictures of ribs, “porky fries”, and the perfectly grilled squash appetizer that people rave about on sites such as YELP and Facebook.
Sure enough, Starlite delivered. I ordered the recommended St. Louis BBQ ribs and the hubby had the smoked then grilled meatloaf sandwich with BBQ sauce (obvi!) We shared sides of braised greens that were to die for, baked Mac and cheese that was rich and creamy, and of course the grilled squash with mole sauce that was equal parts smoky and sweet. Word to the wise: come hungry and bring your vegetarian friends. Yes, really….you may think I’m nuts for suggesting vegetarians and vegans pay a visit to Starlite, but the menu is so diverse, they really cater to all dietary preferences. The choices of scratch made BBQ sauces on the table are great for customizing the flavors on your plate. I really enjoyed the spicy version. We ended the meal with the s’mores dessert that is flambéed table side- be sure to grab your cell phone because it makes for a nice Boomarang.
The cocktails at Starlite are worth mentioning too- I went with the “Unicorn Tears” because well, it’s called Unicorn Tears and resembled a unicorn’s eyeball in the best way possible. The patio is great while the weather is nice and the Starlite folks offer a weekend brunch that looks to die for. The couple dining next to us was on their fourth visit and I can totally see why. Next time I’m going with the fried green tomato sandwich that they swore by to switch things up. If you’re looking for a casual-reasonably priced-cool vibe-slightly hipster spot, check out Starlite BBQ!
