REAL HOUSEWIFE: Meet Meghan Alfonso, CEO of The Pearce Family Foundation, Owner of Girl About Town-her newest party planning venture, and overall cool boss babe to know!
Meghan Alfonso’s family descended into the state in the late 1870’s making her fifth generation Arizonian. After graduating from Desert Mountain High School she moved down to Tucson to go to the University of Arizona. Meghan graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in, Family Studies and Human Development. Since graduating college, Meghan assisted with numerous charities both for business purposes as well as pleasure. Such as: The Lupus Foundation of Arizona, Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA), and The Jack Morton Foundation.
Meghan has a passion for contributing to the community and feels it is important to help those in need. She saw there was a need to help at the home and wanted to give back to the community that helped pave the way for her ancestors. Meghan’s great grandfather, Zebulon Pearce was the first Coors beer distributor in the Southwest after Prohibition ended (in 1933). The Zeb Pearce & Sons Distributing was the longest run family business until her father Arthur Pearce sold the company in 2004. Seeing her family’s legacy and knowing she could help bring back the family name Meghan wanted to start something on her own. The Pearce Family Foundation was founded in July of 2013 and has been successful since. Focusing on paying for bills at the home for families who have a child suffering from a chronic or life-threatening illness, the foundation has assisted over 70 families to date. Hosting events throughout the year and individual donations support the foundation and allows Meghan to do what she loves doing most, and that is giving back.
Give us the scoop on Girl About Town:
I am so excited to share about my new business venture, Girl About Town. Planning parties for over 15 years now for family and friends I was constantly being asked; “who do you use for your flowers” or “who is the best furniture rental in the Valley” and also “can you help me set up an event”? So, I decided to start a business that I can assist people who are looking for a list of great vendors or who need help setting up for a party or event. I have been thankful to have met so many wonderful small businesses who want to be a part of my List, which is a 10-page document. I am selling “The List” to people who want to plan their own event and use people I recommend. They will also receive a friends and family discount if they mention Girl About Town. For a tad more, assistance I can come and personally help set up a party the day of or help you plan a bridal shower or any size event for a different package I offer. I really believe it will take off and can’t wait to see how many “Lists” I can create and share with the community.
What’s on the horizon for Pearce Family Foundation?
Well we are moving! Currently the foundation is off of 53rd and Washington in an old building my father has owned since he sold the company. Lucky for me there was room to office out of but him and I have decided its time to move more towards where we both live, which is in Scottsdale.
Besides a new building we are working on our 4th annual Runway of Hope fashion show and already have secured a good amount of great corporate sponsors as well as designers to be in the show. The event is May 11th at FABRIC in Tempe!
What/Who inspires you?
My family’s reputation inspires me. I am not the first entrepreneur, but I am the first one to start a nonprofit in our family’s name. Pearce, is a strong name thanks to my great grandfather, which is why I want to leave behind a lasting memory in the Valley. Knowing I have a lot to live up to is a blessing since it pushes me to be the best boss and business woman I can.
What’s on your bucket list?
To have a street named after Pearce Family Foundation, or call it PFF
And to own a beach house in Tulum, Mexico
How would you describe your personal style?
I try to be fashionable and with the “trends” but also by adding in my own style. I love to change up my hair and I am not afraid to mix colors and designers. I also have to have a great bag with me and big shades 😉 I believe you should always be over dressed versus under dress because you never know who you are going to meet.
What should every woman try at least once in her life?
Clip in Bangs! That is my secret and they are the best and most fun purchase I have ever invested in lol
What would be a good book title for your life?
5G in the Valley… I am 5th generation Phoenician and love rap music 😉
What is your greatest indulgence?
Handbags…I LOVE a good bag and treasure all of them
If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
I would be a lion. I love how fierce they are, and I am a Leo (my birthday is July 25th) but they also seem very gentle with their pack. I love how they sit and observe the area around them but also are known not to mess with them. I might be small, but I am mighty and I am very protective of my family, my friends and my company
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Ultra Violet…we had that color for our wedding last March (2017) and now it is the color of the year!!
