Today I’m introducing you to one of my favorite housewives in AZ…Leeann Dearing. In addition to being hilarious, gorgeous, and sweet as pie- she is a rockstar mommy and one of the most talented women in the entertainment biz. Enjoy getting to know Leeann below and be sure to follow her at @leeanndearing and @leeannandmichelle!
Leeann Dearing is one of the most recognized commercial actresses in the Valley. Her lengthy resume includes lead roles for Safeguard, Arizona Lottery, Target, GoDaddy, PetSmart, Kroger Foods and Tilted Kilt. With a background in classical theater, Leeann made a move to commercials and television in 2008. Her Film and TV roles include “Everything Must Go” with Will Ferrell, “Maneater” with Sarah Chalke (of Scrubs), and comedy shorts with Frank Caliendo for ESPN. Her role in the horror film “Lighthouse Lane,” earned “Best Actress” award from the Maverick Film Festival. Her comedic duo, Leeann & Michelle Think They’re Funny, has earned millions of video views online and landed her a high-profile role with a major media outlet.
Leeann and her husband, Matthew, co-founded Dearing Acting Studio in North Phoenix. The theatre and acting school recently marked 10 years in business and routinely produces top talent for the Arizona market. Their mission remains to inspire actors and artists to find and live their passion.
What inspires you?
God, the ultimate creative.
My husband, the most selfless person I know.
My son, the kindest heart I’ve ever met.
My daughter, the funniest person alive.
What else? This is going to be the most abstract answer ever, but laughter! There’s nothing in the world like laughing so hard you can’t breathe. It’s the best. When something makes me laugh that hard, I chase that thing down relentlessly. (Example: My husband makes me laugh, and look what happened there. Chased him down GOOD.)
What’s on your bucket list?
Hmmm. I try to take them on as they come to me, so I don’t leave them all for when I’m 90. Opening our own acting school and theater was on the list, and we just celebrated our 10th anniversary at Dearing Studio! That was so exciting (You can learn more about us at @DearingStudio on Facebook and IG! Plugs are fun!) But let’s see…recently I’m feeling the urge to travel. I would say Italy is on my bucket list at the moment, and Ireland for sure. We’re waiting until our kids are a little older, but we’re already planning.
What should every woman try at least once in her life?
Improv. Even if you’re not an actor. We should all have to get up on stage, at least once, without a clue about what is going to happen next, jump off the ledge and trust that the parachute pops open on the way down. There’s no better way to learn how to deeply listen than Improv. You need each other on stage. You have to listen for the outcome to be successful! There’s no other choice but to hang on each other’s ideas, say “yes” to them, and see what combination of truth and absurd comes from that. (I’m an Improv nerd. Is it obvious?)
What would be a good theme song for your life?
It’s obviously a remix. It starts with the Golden Girls “Thank You For Being A Friend”, because I’ve learned how badly I need those in my life…then the DJ scratches the record and we transition into “Singing My Song For You” by Michael Buble, because that makes me think of my husband…then we scratch one last time and we end on “Gettin’ Jiggy With It”. Because I’m happiest when I’m mom-dancing, embarrassing the people I love and cherish. Some day I’ll record a video of my dancing, and you can put it on your blog as a gift to your readers. You guys will be so blessed.
Who’s on your guest list for your ideal dinner party?
Oh, this is easy. I would compile all the funny people I admire. Amy Poehler is high on that list. Kristen Wiig. Melissa McCarthy. Carrie Brownstein. There’s a lot of them. would so love to talk with them about their favorite ways to tease out an idea, their process, all of it. Of course, I need my comedy partner Michelle Fortin at this dinner! (Shameless plug: You can see our comedy at @LeeannAndMichelle on Facebook and Instagram!)
What is your greatest indulgence?
It’s so practical and boring, but fantastic skin care. I’m 34. You gotta protect your neck. Literally and figuratively.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
I would be a shade of pink that I’ll call “Slapstick Lipstick”. That sums up my vibe; equal parts girly and goofball.
