You guys it’s National Chocolate Day! You know what that means? All chocolate calories you eat today don’t count since it’s a national holiday! Ok, that may not be true but today is a great day to celebrate all things cocoa. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite brands of chocolate that is not only an international sensation- it’s locally owned and operated. Say hello to XO Confections! Now I have to tell you a little background to paint the picture of why XO Confections is so unique starting with the company’s German origins during the early 1990’s. At a young age, the company’s founder snuck off the German army base to hunt for the distinctive Bavarian candy he craved. When he moved back to the states as an adult he still yearned for the European chocolates he experienced many years back but found they were unavailable in Arizona. The mind behind XO confections perfected his handcrafted chocolates throughout college while studying genetics and nutrition and that same guy who spent his senior year doing undergraduate research on the genetic element of obesity and diabetes as well as the nutritional modalities for treatment decided to start a candy company- so typical right? He spent years traveling and perfecting his craft until he had a nearly perfect truffle (at least according to his grandma!) and XO Confections was born.
Not only are the XO chocolates colorful, glossy, and gorgeous to look at, the taste is spectacular. The company still sources and selects only the finest exotic spices, fresh fruits and nuts, exquisite liquors, and of course some of the finest single origin and blended chocolate in the world. From the moment you open the box you’re bound to enjoy the luxurious XO experience.
Once only available at farmers markets and artisan pop ups, fast forward to today: XO Confections can be found online, in AJ’s supermarkets valley wide, and the first retail café will be opening this Fall in Old Town Scottsdale just in time for the holiday season. Can you say perfect holiday hostess gift?!
