As the summer temperatures reach nearly 120 degrees, I did what any normal family with a wild-outdoor-loving child would do… Schedule a vacation at a fabulous resort 1 mile from home that has an amazing pool. Last weekend my family and I checked into the Scottsdale Hyatt at Gainey Ranch for a 24 hour escape. We were greeted by Lance the falcon in the lobby who was a hit with my nearly 3 year old and husband alike. After getting our share of bird knowledge, we wandered over to the Butterfly Wonderland table where my little guy enjoyed meeting the creepy crawlies that were squirming about. I have to admit, the tarantula and giant scorpion were quite interesting!
After we had our share of critters it was time for the pool! If you haven’t been to the Hyatt’s pool before you are missing out on what is one of the most family friendly aquatic spaces in AZ. Complete with a water slide, white sandy beach, pool floats, tools to construct the perfect sandcastle, and the best grilled peanut butter and jelly quesadilla I’ve ever tasted- this place is a kid’s dream during an Arizona summer. After we exhausted out the toddler (and ourselves) we retreated to our casita for a little afternoon snooze.
The Hyatt casitas are perfect for families, they have 1 or 2 bedroom options and have just been updated with kitchens, private rooftop terrace, huge lake front deck, and a sleek modern look. It was so nice to have a home away from home and we loved listening to the gondola singers and boats pass by in the evening. I have to mention the restaurant on site is fantastic and the lobby bar serves a mean brandy alexander. If you haven’t had one of these treats made with real homemade vanilla ice cream, you must try it here! (hint: it’s not on the menu!) All in all, if you’re looking for a family friendly escape without breaking the bank, the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch is the place to be this summer.
