If you’re looking for the perfect escape less than 2 hours from the valley, you’re in luck! The Loews Resort at Ventana Canyon is nestled within the Catalina Mountains on the north side of Tucson and may be the desert oasis you’re looking for. The Loews is luxury meets tranquility with a touch of contemporary sophistication in each room. Recently updated guest rooms feature a modern yet warm interior set against a natural southwestern backdrop and every room is equipped with free wi-fi, a mini fridge, and an enormous bathtub that can fit more people than should ever be in 1 bathtub at the same time. We were lucky enough to have a giant natural waterfall off the patio-thank you mother nature! The property’s swimming pools were a highlight of our trip and we appreciated the lively family friendly option and the quiet adult only spa pool where we enjoyed turkey cranberry club sandwiches and watermelon mojitos…yum! The spa in itself is incredible and my massage treatment may have been the best massage I’ve had to date. In fact, we met a few locals that are members of the spa because the therapists are THAT good. Now, let’s talk about the guacamolier. Yes, that word is on the menu at The Loews and you better order the guac if you dine at the Flying V restaurant on property. The guacamole is prepared by an avocado expert table side at what looks like a rolling buffet. The guacamolier went through each ingredient option with us before mashing all the goodies into the BEST guacamole all of us have ever had. Really, every bite was a little bit different depending on the ingredient combination and the giant bowl was gone within minutes..maybe seconds. The rest of the dinner was equally as tasty-we opted for giant burgers and pear martinis…hey, we’re on vacation!
From every detail including the various individually labeled apples in the room, the gorgeous 5:00PM cheese plate, the live spanish guitar and dancing in the lobby, the dive in movie with freeh popcorn at sunset, and the amazingly clear stargazing at the pool due to the “lights out” city ordinance in Tucson, the Loews Ventana Canyon is the perfect spot for a romantic couples trip or girls getaway. I highly encourage you to visit the Loews at Ventana Canyon even if it’s only for 24 hours to refresh, recharge, and eat a ridiculous amount of guacamole.
