If you’re looking for a new way to relax and rejuvenate your mind and muscles in Scottsdale- let me introduce you to Yin yoga class at Modern Yoga hidden on the corner of Hayden and Mountain View in Scottsdale. Modern Yoga founder, John Salisbury and his team of elite yoga teachers have united to create one of the most powerful yoga practices in the valley. With FLOW Being the most popular class on the schedule and me being new to yoga, I compromised and eased into the studio by taking a midday yin yoga class which turned out to be a fantastic starting point for a novice like myself. According to Modern Yoga’s website Yin yoga is defined as:
A very slow-paced style of yoga with postures mostly done on the floor that are held for long periods of time. Yin yoga applies gentle tension to the connective tissue, such as the tendons, fascia, and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility and strength. The poses also improve the flow of prana (life force) to boost organ health, immunity, mental and emotional balance and well-being. Appropriate for all levels.
The description is totally accurate. A few of the phrases the teacher repeated throughout class were “the issues are in our tissues” and “feel it to heal it” Both these statements resonated with me as I held each pose for 3-6 minutes as instructed. The ambience inside Modern Yoga is a funky mix of eclectic Asian influence meets Old Town Scottsdale on a Saturday night. The music and lighting are perfect and the staff is incredible from the moment you sign in at the front desk. The vibe is friendly, unpretentious, and warm (and I’m not just talking about the room temperature.) After my class that was performed completely on the mat, I felt rejuvenated and ready to tackle the rest of my day. It was a strange but wonderful feeling of total relaxation in ever muscle fiber but active energy flowing through my body from head to toe. Whether you’re looking to de-stress or increase your physical and mental stability, you should check out Modern Yoga and all the various classes they offer. Your first class is FREE!
