Yes, you read that right. This past weekend I took the plunge (there is a pun in there somewhere) and jumped on a paddle board for a 60 minute yoga session with Desert Paddleboards. If you know me, you know I’m up for trying almost anything at least once and this experience did not disappoint. We started the paddleboard yoga class by getting used to the feel of the board in the water. I was surprised how steady it was…at least while we were in child’s pose not moving. We went through the traditional yoga motions lead by a fantastic yoga teacher and as the positions progressed so did the uneasy feeling of plunging into the water. At least the water was heated, clean, and had drops of Michael Phelps sweat swirling throughout. Really, he trains at this pool. As the “flow” of the yoga moves increased, so did the waves and inability to balance. A few people ended up getting a closer look at the water than others but there is no judgment and you have to laugh at yourself-plus it’s refreshing- Yoga is hard work especially on a paddleboard! The instructors at Desert Paddleboards are valley yoga teachers and I enjoyed the different modifications and options they gave to accommodate all levels.
Paddleboard yoga was such a unique workout and a great way to beat the AZ heat. Visit http://www.desertpaddleboards.com/ and follow them on social media for the most updated list of classes and locations. Classes are just $12 each.
