I love salt. On salt and vinegar potato chips, on peanuts, on french tries, and in my pod. Pod? Yes, you read that right. I had the unique privilege of experiencing a “float” at True Rest Float Spa near Scottsdale/Shea and all I can say is ahhhhhhhhh. It truly was the most relaxing 60 minutes in what was otherwise a crazy busy chaotic traffic filled Black Friday. If you’re unfamiliar with the floating concept let me break it down for you. First you watch a 5 minute video explaining what will happen when you enter your floating pod, then you take a tour of the spa with a personal spa guide that escorts you to your private room complete with shower, pod, and all the necessities you will need including earplugs, petroleum jelly, a floating pillow, and flip flops….I know this is sounding freaky but keep reading. When you get settled into your room your escort steps out and it’s up to you to get your float on. Take a quick shower to rinse off any lotion or oil on your body, pop in your earplugs, and open the hydraulic lid of your spaceship…I mean pod. Climb on it. The 1000 lbs. of salt keep you so buoyant it’s nearly impossible to submerge yourself (believe me I tried!) The water is warm, heated to your exact body temperature and the soothing music and changing colors in the pod are surprisingly chill. If you’re brave and want the full experience, turn the lights off completly and close the top. (I opted to keep the lights on top slightly cracked open for my first time) That’s it! Lay back on top of the water and start counting your breaths. The water almost feels like gelatin due to the high salt content and your body is completely weightless. If you’re like me, you may feel like you’re floating in outer space. It took about 15 min. to settle my mind and body into the water but once I did it was euphoric.
Whether you’re looking for something new to try to help with muscle or joint pain, anxiety or insomnia relief, or pure relaxation True Rest really does wonders. The only thing that would make the floating on salt experience better is if they put some of that salt on the rim of a margarita when the 60 minutes is up. Happy Floating Friends!
